Tamias sibiricus

Tamias sibiricus, commonly known as the Siberian chipmunk, is a small, energetic rodent native to northern Asia, including Russia, China, and Korea. These chipmunks are easily recognizable by their characteristic five dark stripes running down their back and their bushy tails. Unlike their North American cousins, Siberian chipmunks tend to be more solitary and are often found living alone in forests and woodlands. They are highly active creatures, especially during the warmer months, when they forage for food to store for the winter. Siberian chipmunks primarily feed on seeds, nuts, fruits, and occasionally insects, gathering and storing food in underground burrows to survive the colder months when food is scarce.

As pets, Siberian chipmunks are popular for their playful and curious nature, but they require specific care. These animals need large enclosures that mimic their natural environment, providing plenty of room to climb, burrow, and explore. They are not as fond of being handled as some other rodents, so owners should respect their space and observe their behaviors from a distance.
